What is Motorhome and Campervan Insurance?

Motorhome and Campervan insurance covers your motorhome and campervan for you and your passengers in the event that there’s any damage, accidents or theft.

Motorhomes or campervans legally require insurance if you want to drive on the public highway.

The Motorhome and Campervan Horizon policy covers high-value vehicles and professional conversions.

The Twilight campervan product is designed for vehicles that do not qualify for the Horizon policy, which mostly includes vehicles like self-builds, or classics that want agreed value, or in situations where you want to pay to protect your no claims.

Differences between motorhomes and campervans

We think of motorhomes and campervans slightly differently.

Motorhomes

Motorhomes generally fall into 5 categories – coach-built, low profile, A-class, American ‘RV’ style, and race trucks – and are designed for cruising around the country.


They tend to be larger than campervans, with the driving cab often separate from any living space. Motorhomes usually include more advanced appliances such as full-sized ovens, fridges and bathrooms.

Campervans

Campervans are usually a little smaller than motorhomes and frequently share the same chassis as a normal van (where your driving and living space are combined).

Campervans come in all shapes, sizes and roof types – including pop-up and high-top roofs.

    Get up to 365 days European travel cover on our Horizon Motorhome and Campervan policy or up to 90 days on our Twilight campervan policy.

  • Personal belongings

    Up to £5,000 cover for personal items on our Horizon Motorhome and Campervan policy and up to £1,000 on our Twilight Campervan policy.

  • New-for-old replacement

    Up to the current market value of your motorhome or campervan.  Your vehicle cannot be older than 36 months and must have a mileage below 15,000 miles.

What’s not covered

Unfortunately, we can’t cover everything. Make sure you’re comfortable with what’s not covered, including:

  • Theft of your vehicle if you’ve left it unattended with the engine running
  • Damage to tyres caused by braking including punctures, bursts or cuts
  • Damage arising from domestic animals, moths, vermin or pests

If you’ve had an accident or need to make a claim, call Comfort Assist on 08000280038.

You'll need your policy number to start your claim – so it's a good idea to have this to hand.

What you'll be asked

Your Personal Incident Manager will ask you for details of what’s happened and of anyone else involved.

They’ll confirm whether you’re covered and any excess you have to pay as well as helping to organise recovery of your vehicle, if you need it.

Comfort Insurance will work with you to sort things out as quickly as possible.

Whether that's organising repairs to get you back on the road. Or contacting other parties to settle your claim for replacing your vehicle.
