3 ways to wellbeing with Aviva Health
Explore three ways to wellbeing and improve your mental, physical and emotional health.
While we’re proud of our 5-star Defaqto rated health insurance, we think that our health policies should do more than just be there for you when things go downhill. We think people should feel empowered to feel their best all year round, which is why we include plenty of wellbeing services for our health insurance customers. So, when it comes to looking after your health, we’re here to help you start this year off bright after the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.
We’ll look at three ways to start shaping your wellbeing this year with the help of Aviva Health Insurance. From taking charge of your physical health to nurturing your mind, we’ll look at how small but meaningful changes over time can help you prioritise a healthy mind and body.
Taking ownership of your health
Getting a better understanding of your health starts with the right access to good support and useful tools. It’s no secret that wait times in the public health sector have increased over recent years, and this can make it feel like you haven’t got control over your health when you need it. Having access to a doctor over the phone can make all the difference when it comes to getting the right treatment at the right time.
Aviva Digital GP
We've partnered up with Square Health to provide our health insurance customers with access to a virtual GP 24/7. With Aviva Digital GP, you can:
- get access to around the clock video consultations
- get an appointment in just 30 minutes, with most available on the same day
- get a private prescription for delivery or collection
- order a repeat NHS prescription (all NHS England exemptions accepted)
- choose the GP you want to speak to and read their bio
- view consultation notes and history on the app
- add any children under 16 to your account
Getting a GP appointment doesn't have to be a challenge. With Aviva Digital GP, it can be as simple as pulling your phone out of your pocket and getting a video appointment booked, with most appointments available on the same day. No hassle getting to your local surgery, no waiting room, just a doctor in your pocket.
This is a non-contractual benefit that can be changed or removed at any time.
MyHealthCounts
MyHealthCounts can give you a quick and insightful snapshot of your current health and any lifestyle factors that could benefit from improvements. After taking an online health risk assessment, you'll be given a Q Score, hotspots to address and opportunity to join a 12-week programme to help you with key areas for improvements. Participating in MyHealthCounts could even help you earn a discount on your renewal premium.
Mental wellbeing
Your mental wellbeing is just as important as your physical wellbeing. Keeping on top of your mental health doesn’t have to feel like a slog on top of everything else. Health doesn’t stop at the body and that’s why some of our Aviva Health policies can help with covering mental health care. Our cover includes up to £2,000 of cover for mental health treatment as an outpatient as standard, without any add-ons, if you’re referred by a GP.
Stress Counselling helpline
The Stress Counselling helpline is available 24/7 to all Aviva Health customers aged 16 and over. You’ll be able to chat to trained counsellors who can help you through a rocky period, and you might even find that this is enough to give you the mental health support you need.
In the meantime, we’ve put together some small things you can do to look after your mind this year.
- Find joy in movement – If you're up to it and able, aim to get outside at least once a day. Fresh air can help ease stress and change your perspective on things. Look around in your local area for walking groups, hiking trails, or even outdoor swimming if that’s your thing (Brrrrrr!).
- Take breaks – Make the most of your annual leave entitlement, it's there for you to use! If you start to notice yourself getting overwhelmed, just taking some time to reset can make a big difference.
- Enjoy new (or old!) hobbies – Making time for hobbies can bring a little more joy to the everyday. You can always start with something small and simple like writing in a journal. Thinking about the hobbies you enjoyed as a kid can help – were you a keen painter? A lover of books?
- Try mindfulness – Learning techniques to calm your mind and focus on the present can help keep you more in control of your emotions. You could try meditation, breath work, or listening to a guided meditation.
Remember that mental wellbeing is a marathon, and not a sprint. Taking small, regular steps can lead to bigger, lasting changes.
Staying active
Despite what you might see on social media, staying fit and healthy isn’t just about looking trim and muscular. Regular physical activity can help boost your energy levels, support your immune system and improve cardiac health and mobility. All of these things can have an effect on the way you age, so staying fit can keep you independent for longer. If you're able and up to a bit of physical activity but want to start slow, you could try starting out with gentle stretching, walking, or yoga. And remember, staying active isn't the only way to support your health. A balanced diet, having good quality sleep, getting outdoors for quality time, and looking after your mental health are all part of the puzzle too.
With this being the case, we think it's only right that we provide our health insurance customers with services that make keeping active and healthy easier for them.
Get Active
Get Active is a service we offer with all our health insurance policies. It makes sure that you have everything you need to meet your own physical health goals. It'll provide you with offers on products and services that can help you keep on top of your physical and mental health for less. From discounts on gym memberships and home fitness guidance to offers on meal deliveries, skincare and days out with the family, you'll be able to find something that's right for you.
Get into some good habits now that support your physical and mental wellbeing, so you can feel like your best self all year.
This is a non-contractual benefit that can be changed or removed at any time.
