Is my car insured? How to find out

How can I find out if my car is insured?
To check if your car is insured, you can use the Motor Insurance Database (MID) by entering your registration number.
How can I check who my car is insured with?
There are a few different ways you can check who your car insurance provider is:

- Check bank statements
- Search through emails

When does my car insurance run out?
Generally you will renew your car insurance annually, unless you have taken out temporary car insurance. Some providers will also send a letter a month or so before your policy runs out as a reminder.
What are the penalties for driving without car insurance?
According to the UK Government, you could be hit with a fixed penalty of £300 and get six penalty points added to your licence. If you then go to court, it could be an unlimited fine and you could also be disqualified from driving Footnote [1].
