Van insurance for young drivers
As a young driver thinking about owning a van, find out about covering the basics with van insurance.
Whether for the extra space or because road trips sound more fun than backpacking, you may think about owning a van instead of a car as a young driver (aged 17-24).
Can I get van insurance as a young driver?
Yes! As a young driver you can get our standard van insurance.
And while nothing could touch the love you have for your van, someone may not feel the same, so it’s worth understanding how to help protect your van. For vans under 3.5T Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), including box vans, light vans, pick-ups, and electric vans, here are three basics to check for:
- Tool cover – This means that if someone uses a crowbar to crack open your van doors and pinch some tools (how dare they), you’re covered. We won't cover loss or damage arising from theft not involving forceable entry to your van, and there is a cover limit of £500 which is only available if you have comprehensive cover.
- Repair guarantee – After a claim, this guarantees the quality of repairs made by approved repairers for as long as you own your van (even if you change insurers). Parts are covered for the length of the guarantee given by the part manufacturer or supplier. Wear and tear is not covered. You must keep your vehicle roadworthy.
- Glass replacement – Be it a stone skidding off another vehicle’s tyre or something falling from above, if your van’s windscreen or windows are shattered this cover can help sort out a replacement or repair.
What types of van insurance can an under 25 driver get?
There are two types of van insurance to think about based on your activities.
If you're only planning on driving your van for personal or social reasons, like lugging your camping equipment on your next adventure, then our personal van insurance could fit your needs.
But if you’re planning on using your van for any work-related activities, like driving back and forth from job sites or it’s helping you run a small business, then you’ll need the Business Vehicle and Van Insurance.

Is a multi van insurance policy cheaper?
As multi van insurance covers all your vehicles (cars and vans) under a single policy and could take 10% off the cover cost for the additional vehicle, it could be cheaper than insuring the addtional vehicle separately.
Discount doesn't apply to optional extras.
Excludes Aviva Online, Aviva Premium and Aviva Zero car insurance products. Up to 5 vehicles can be insured under one policy and must be registered at the same address. Discount not available in addition to any existing multi product discount.
