Optional baggage cover

Protect your personal belongings if your baggage goes on its own adventure.

Whether your baggage is a mess  or you’ve carefully folded your things into exact geometric shapes like a game of blocks, you may want our baggage cover in case you and your baggage go on different adventures.

What is baggage cover?

If your baggage is delayed on its way for more than 12 hours, and it’s because of the airlines mistake, then our annual multi-trip and single trip travel insurance will cover up to £150 per person for buying the things you need.

Baggage cover is an optional cover, beyond standard travel insurance, that helps to protect your personal belongings during your trip if they’re stolen, lost or damaged.

What is covered?

Our optional baggage cover will protect your personal belongings and valuables with:

  • up to £1,500 per person, per incident (with a £100 excess per person).
  • up to £400 on a single item, pair or set.
  • and a total valuables limit of £400 per person.

This means that the overall limit per person per incident is £1,500 including clothes, toiletries, and valuables. And although the jumper knitted by your great Nan is valuable, your insurer will see valuables as:

  • jewellery (even costume jewellery).
  • watches.
  • things containing gold, silver, precious metals or stones.
  • binoculars.
  • hand-held games consoles and equipment.
  • mobile phones.
  • tablets.
  • video cameras.
  • computer and TV equipment.
  • portable satellite navigation systems.

But if you lost your phone and laptop together, you’ll receive £400 maximum per person with the valuables limit. It’s also worth checking your home insurance policy, which may have higher insured limits for items, as some valuables could be covered.

What isn't covered?

Your baggage won’t be covered if:

  • It’s lost, damaged, or stolen because you weren’t keeping an eye on it, left it somewhere on purpose, or didn’t store it in a locked room or safe, or out of view such as in enclosed storage or in the boot of a locked vehicle.
  • your pedal cycles, contact lenses, hearing aids, or dental fittings are lost, damaged or stolen.
  • you don’t report your belongings stolen within 24 hours (or as soon as can be expected) to the police.
  • your winter sports, scuba diving, golf and fishing equipment is lost, damaged or stolen. But, you can get both winter sports and golf cover separately.
  • your possessions are held up or taken by customs or other officials.

Is optional baggage cover worth it?

As with any insurance, it's about being protected if something doesn’t go to plan.

The airline and security agents will be checking your passport and what’s in your luggage (remember tiny bottles of bodywash), not whether you have baggage insurance.

And although you could travel without baggage cover, there are several good reasons to get it anyway.

If you’ve already spent a chunk of money on flights, accommodation, and events (like golf or scuba diving), then having protection in case something unexpected happens to your belongings may help you focus on your adventure rather than worries.

Ultimately, baggage cover could help lessen the frustration and inconvenience of not having the things you need.
